THE EDITING ROOM / GUIDES

Video extender vs. video expander: time or canvas?

“Make my video longer” and “make my video wider” describe different editing jobs. Choosing the right operation matters more than the name a tool uses.

An extender adds time

A generative video extender takes an existing clip and creates frames that continue after it. Use it when a shot ends too early and you need the scene to carry on. Extender Video is built for this task.

An expander adds space

A video expander, sometimes called video outpainting, generates content outside the original frame. It can help turn a narrow crop into a wider composition. That does not necessarily add time to the clip. This studio does not offer canvas expansion.

A loop repeats the clip

A loop puts the same footage after itself. It is useful for a background or a repeating animation. It does not invent a new action, and the point where the clip restarts may be visible.

Slow motion changes playback speed

Slowing a video stretches its duration by showing existing motion more slowly. Some editors interpolate frames to smooth the result. That still differs from generating what happens after the original action.
